Limestone County Ranks Fastest Growing County in State of Alabama

LIMESTONE COUNTY – Limestone County once again ranks as the Fastest-Growing County in the State of Alabama, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Vintage 2023 estimates of population and components of change released on March 14, 2024.

Data indicates the following:

  • Limestone County Population Estimate (as of July 1, 2023) = 114,654 (103,565 in 2020)
  • Limestone County is the 11th largest county in the State of Alabama
  • Annual Change from July 1, 2022, to July 1, 2023, = +3,786 or 3.4%
  • Cumulative Change from April 1, 2020, to July 1, 2023, = +11,089 or 10.7%

“I am honored to witness our community’s remarkable growth,” said Limestone County Commission Chairman Collin Daly. “I thank the people working daily to make Limestone County a great place to live, work, worship, and play.”

 

“We embrace this achievement as a testament to our community’s resilience, innovation, and collaborative spirit,” said Limestone County Economic Development Association President & CEO Bethany Shockney. “This is due to the hard work and dedication of our residents, businesses, industries, and community leaders who continue to invest in our shared prosperity.”

 

“I am immensely proud to see Limestone County recognized as the fastest-growing county in Alabama for 2023,” said Athens-Limestone County Chamber of Commerce President Pammie Jimmar. “This accolade speaks volumes about our community’s future.”

 

Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association President & CEO Tami Reist said newcomers are attracted to the area for several reasons.

 

“The affordable cost of living, healthy business environment, numerous outdoor recreation opportunities, and their Main Street area is one of the best,” said Reist.
