Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian Mitchell Stewart, age 93 of Ashland, will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Bro. Chris Armstrong and Bro. Claude Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Ashland City Cemetery.
A native of Calhoun County, she had lived many years of her life in the Hopeful Community in Talladega County, and most of her adult life in Clay County. She had worked in the poultry business for over 30 years, and had worked for William Ray Freeman Poultry Farm and also Freemans Blueberry Farm as well as the Alabama Blueberry processing plant for many years. This was a part of her life that she enjoyed very much. In her earlier years she enjoyed working on church projects. She and her late husband Horace would go the extra step to help someone in need. They both loved helping people; it was a joy and a blessing to them. Throughout her life she was a member of the Assembly of God.
Lillian enjoyed early morning walks, her beautiful azaleas and flowering trees, and her white silky chickens. Found memories that her children will cherish are watching her rock her great grandbaby boy, Alex to sleep and him smiling up at her telling him little stories. The family enjoyed their dear momma telling of her childhood, growing up in the “hard times” and sitting under the maple tree telling sweet stories and listening to the birds and watching the pretty butterflies. We will always remember her sweet voice and the stories of long ago and what a blessing and a gift to us she was. Jordan her granddaughter said, that those memories of our precious grandma Lillian will truly be missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Marie Franksain (Ken) of Ashland, her son, Doug Stewart of Ashland, her granddaughter, Jordan Franksain of Ashland, her great-grandson Jace Alexander Hallman, and four sisters, Patsy Wilt of Lineville, Earline Moore of Dadeville, Emma Jean Lambert of Lineville, and Ella Louise Mitchell of Ashland, one brother, Franklin Mitchell of Ashland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Frank Mitchell and Minnie Brown Mitchell, her husband of 57 years, Horace Stewart, two sisters, infant Nellie Faye Mitchell, and Ruby Mitchell Moon, four brothers, infant Alton Mitchell, Billy Mitchell, Hollis Mitchell, and Leon Mitchell.
Active pallbearers will be: Tony Wolfe, Mike Wideman, Jeremey Wideman and Chris Armstrong.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 2:00 P.M.
