Jean Wells Levona Jean Wells, age 89, of Russellville, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at her residence.

If you knew Jean, you know she was a loving, caring and nurturing woman.  She loved helping other people, whether it be driving someone to doctors appointments, grocery stores, just driving them around, or going to yard sales.  She was a long-time member of Isbell Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school and Vacation Bible school teachers.

Jean was a member of the Russellville Order of Eastern Star # 256 and also a member of Charity Chapel EOS # 1 of Red Bay.  She served as Worthy Matron as well as other offices & positions.  She loved the Eastern Star and lived by the teaching of “Love one another”.  She had several nicknames, Mom, Aunt Jean, Mawmaw, Beautiful Lady, and Sunshine, just to name a few.  One of her biggest accomplishments was being the oldest living breast cancer survivor, having survived for 47 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Terri Long (husband, Greg) of Florence; son, Michael Eugene Wells (wife, Opal) of Scottsboro; granddaughters, April Wells Clifton (husband, Quentin), Nola Dawn Wells; sister-in-law, Glenda Sue Peeden (Pete); fur grand pups, Olivia, Otis, Dobbie; and a host of nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Eugene “Firecracker” Wells; mother & stepfather, Bessie (Franks) & James Ed Mansell; brother, Charles W. Cummings; sister, Evelyn Pauline Weeks; and a host of sisters and brothers-in-laws.

The visitation will be 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Spry Memorial Chapel.  The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel with Bro. Barrett Holland officiating the service.  Burial will be at Knights of Pythias Cemetery.

The pallbearers will be Charlie Cummings, Matthew Cummings, Sherman Lynch, Donnie Hargett, Gene Ellison, and Wayne Hester.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses & staff of 4th Floor of North Alabama Medical Center and to all the doctors and nurses, too many to mention, that took care of Jean over the years.

Spry Memorial Chapel assisted the family.
