Lester E. Parker, 85, of Moultrie, Ga., died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Willson Hospice House in Albany, Ga.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Cobb Funeral Chapel in Moultrie with the Rev. Wayne Woods and Mr. Curtis Bynum officiating. Interment will follow in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
Casketbearers will be Michael Clark, Les Parker, Stephen Ramsey, Curtis Bynum, Clint Chafin, David Adams, Jerry Croft and Frank Cox.
Honorary casketbearers will be members of American Legion Post 324.
Born Oct. 1, 1927, in Opelika, Ala., he was the son of the late Oscar Parker and Mattie Whitehead Parker. He was a World War II Army veteran and retired as Manager of the U.S. Security Warehouse in Moultrie. His former home was in Columbus, Ga. where he was a member of Linwood Baptist Church. He served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School director, Training Union director, deacon, trustee, treasurer, church clerk and Brotherhood President. Also in Columbus, he helped to start Little League, was a coach for four years and was former president of the Community “L” Club. He moved to Moultrie in 1971, and joined First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Nell Curlee Parker; brothers, James Parker and Norman Parker; sisters, Margaret Bullock and Tippy Miller.
Survivors include three sons, Danny B. Clark and wife, Debbie, of Florence, Ala., the Rev. Richard L. Parker and wife, Amy, of Russellville, Ala., and Robert “Sandy” Parker and wife, Shelly, of Leesburg, Ga.; one brother, Chester O. Parker, of Woodstock, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Les Parker, Michael Clark, Stephen Ramsey, Lauren Hyde, Leah Parker, Holly Parker and Rebekah Parker; two great-grandchildren, Catherine Hyde and Layla Parker.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Sunday at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
