Funeral services for Lester B. “Buddy” Bishop, age 89, of Lineville will be Monday June 26, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Rev. John Howell officiating. His burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.
Mr. Bishop was born in Clay County and graduated from Lineville High School in 1952, then lived in Gadsden and Anniston before returning to Clay County in 1967. Buddy served in the United States Army, the Army National Guard and retired from the Army Reserve with over 22 years of total service to his country. He also retired as a rural route carrier with the United States Postal Service. Mr. Bishop enjoyed hunting, feeding the deer, working in his flower beds and spending time with his great granddaughters. He was member of Barfield Baptist Church.
Mr. Bishop is survived by his wife of 70 years Mary Ruth Mitchell Bishop of Lineville; his son Douglas Bishop (Jonell) of Lineville; his grandson, Justin Bishop (Brandi) of Lineville; two great granddaughters, Madilyn Bishop and Ansley Bishop; one brother Billy Bishop of Albany, GA.
Mr. Bishop is preceded in death by his parents, Frank T. Bishop and Essie Elsie Harris Bishop; two sisters, Clois Brannon and Jewel Craft.
Active Pallbearers will be Sherman Carwile, Ed Smith, Elton Reeves, Jessie Glaze, Bert Haynes, and Mike Craft. Honorary pallbearer will be Charles Upchurch.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 25, 2023 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville and until service time on Monday.
