Mr. Leon Keener, 95, of Florence, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at his home.
The service to celebrate his life will be held Sunday, August 5th at 3:00 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The Reverend John McKell will officiate. There will be a time of visitation at the church from 2:00 p.m. until service time.
Mr. Keener was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 12, 1917. He graduated from Hiram College, Hiram, Ohio, and served in the Army Air Corps. during World War II. He became the office manager at the Diamond Shamrock plant in Muscle Shoals, retiring in 1979.
He was a member of the Florence Rotary Club and volunteered at the Help Center and Meals on Wheels. He was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and brightened many lives with beautiful works in stained glass. He loved to travel and visit with his family.
He is survived by sons Geoffrey Keener, of Florence, Michael Keener and wife, Jackie, of Ashville, N.C. and Todd Keener and Diane ,of Atascadero, Calif.; three granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and two great-great-grandsons.
Mr. Keener was preceded in death by his wife Bettina Kurtz Keener; and a sister Dorothy Wiechel.
