Leamon T. Cooper – Obituary

Leamon T. Cooper age 94 passed away Tuesday morning, June 5, 2018 at his home.

He was born August 9, 1923 in Perry County, TN in the Sinking Creek Community, the son of the late Cullie Robert and Bessie Mae Dabbs Cooper. He grew up in Perry County and attended school there. He married Ruby Mae Mathis June 30, 1945. They moved to Gary, Indiana in 1948 and he began working at Inland Steel as an overhead crane operator. He retired after thirty-seven and ½ years. They moved to Henderson in 2004.

Mr. Cooper was known for his kindness, honesty, gentleness and patience. He had a great sense of humor and he was a faithful Christian and a man of prayer.

Mr. Cooper is survived by two daughters, Judy Bell (Frank) of Henderson and Sylvia Singleton (Thomas) of Franklin, TN; nine grandchildren, Tammy Hanback (Casey), Mark Bell (Angie), Kurt Singleton (Jennifer), Shellie Sowell (Andy), Mandy Singleton Clay, Julie Spivey (Garrett), Heather Cooper, Chad Cooper and Holly Paul (Matt); nineteen great grandchildren and Dr. James Wilkins a close personal friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruby Mae Mathis Cooper in 2007, a son, Bruce Leamon Cooper, two grandsons, Bruce Cooper, Jr. and Todd Cooper and four brothers, Ellis Cooper, Edward Cooper, Robert Cooper and Lavergne Cooper.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Main Street Chapel with Dr. James Wilkins and Eddie Larkin officiating. Burial will follow in Henderson City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Main Street Chapel 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday.
