Mr. Lawrence Rudolph Lilly, age 85, of Gurley passed away at his home on
October 17, 2023. Larry was born in Altoona, PA and grew up there and in the Chicago area. While living in Chicago he met the love of his life Mary Sue Putman. He loved God, his family and his Country and served in the Army in the early 60’s.
He is survived by his son Stephen L. Lilly, daughter Suzanne Marie Colbath, son in law Mark E. Colbath, granddaughters whom he adored Kat Colbath and Dana Rose Lowery, sister in laws Janice Lilly and Mary (Becky) Putman, brother in laws, Joe Putman and Jessie Putman, and a host of nephews, nieces, special family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Sue, parents Joseph R. (Rude) and Ardella Lilly, sister Lola Mae Bitner, brothers Leo Vernon Lilly, Dean Vincent Lilly, Joseph Raymond Lilly and Arthur (Bud) Lilly, special cousin Shirley Mae McCool and grandson Matthew Andrew Colbath.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Scottsboro Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the funeral being held on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Hollytree, Alabama with Lynn Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. with the service to follow. Burial will follow in the Latham Cemetery in Trenton, Alabama.
Larry was very patriotic and would love for anyone to donate to Tunnel to Towers, Wounded Warriors or any Veterans organization of your choice in lieu of flowers.
