Lawrence Michael “Mikey” Oakes, 65, of Owens Cross Roads, passed away on May 10, 2023.
Mikey owned a club years ago, and was a jack of all trades who could fix just about anything you asked him to. Pawpaw loved all of his grandbabies with all of his heart. They were his whole world. He never encountered a stranger. Everybody knew him and he knew everybody. He was the most caring, good-hearted man you could ever meet. His brothers and sisters were some of his best friends and he cherished every phone call and memory they had together. He was so funny and he’d want everyone to know he is “fine and dandy like cotton candy, good and sweet like mini wheats.” We sure are going to miss you and we can’t wait to see you again.
He is survived by his wife Minnie Oakes and his children: Jacin Oakes, Terry Oakes (Stephanie), Jerry Oakes, David Oakes (Ashley); siblings, John David (Janie), Ricky Oakes (Shelia), Patricia Kimbrough (Donnie), Luther Oakes, Lewis Oakes; and 16 grandchildren.
Lawrence was preceded in death by a brother, William Oakes, Father, John Oakes Jr, Mother, Catherine Ivy.
The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at Berryhill Funeral Home from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.
