Mr. Lawrence D. Sands (Larry) passed away peacefully at his home in Lynnville, Tennessee on December 5, 2023 at the age of 80 after a long battle with dementia.
Mr. Sands was a retired Attorney and cattle farmer and grew up in Lynnville. He was the fourth of five sons born to Robert Lee and Annie Weatherford Sands.
Larry was a graduate of Jones High School and MTSU. Larry worked as an adjuster for State Farm Insurance for many years while continuing his education and obtained his Law Degree from Nashville School of law in 1985 and entered the practice of law with his brother, now Judge Bobby Sands, in Columbia, TN. Larry retired from the practice of law in January, 2020.
Although he enjoyed the practice of law, he loved the farm life of his youth and vowed he would return to Lynnville to live and did so in the early 1990’s. Larry worked hard on his farm raising cattle, bushhogging, mowing and doing all the various things that farming entails and loved every minute of it.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Ralph Sands, Randall Sands and Samuel Sands. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Sandy, stepdaughters, Courtney and Anna, step granddaughters, Kielyn Addie and Marley, and brother, Judge Bobby Sands (Beth), nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the families, friends and neighbors who have been so supportive -in so many ways during Larry’s illness. Your kindness and consideration will never be forgotten. You brought light to many dark days.
In Lieu of flowers, family asks memorial donations be made to Lynnwood Cemetery in c/o Harry Locke, P.O. Box 305 Lynnville, TN 38472.
In Larry’s honor, it is requested that prayers be said for victims and their families navigating their way through the horrible disease of dementia for it is truly the long and heartbreaking goodbye.
At Larry’s request, his service will be private and graveside.
