Laverne Pounders Cornelius, 87, passed away Monday, April 4, 2022 at her residence. She was born in Belmont, MS and was a factory worker for thirty-three years. She was of the Christian Faith and attended the Restoration Community Church in Hamilton, AL.

Services will be Thursday, April 7, 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Tishomingo, MS with Bro. Gary Phillips and Bro. Ronnie Scogin officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery, Tishomingo, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.

She is survived by her children – Susan Barksdale (Mark), Ruel Cornelius, Jr. (Kim), Jennifer Henley, Gary and Heather Phillips; grandchildren – Rachel Cornelius-Phillips, Jonathan Cornelius (Brooke), Marieshah Henley, Alex Henley, Zoie Phillips, Parker Phillips, Haley Maxwell and Harrison Maxwell (Sara Beth); great-grandchildren – Easton Lee and Gunner Maxwell; brother-in-law – James Gentle; sister-in-law – Sharon Pounders and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruel Cornelius, Sr., a son, Randy Cornelius, her parents, Breatis and Claudie Pharr Pounders, a brother, Dexter Pounders and a sister, Elwanda Gentle.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Cornelius, Harrison Maxwell, Alex Henley, Jimmy Channel, David Peacock and Gary Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be the congregation of Restoration Community Church.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 6, 5-9 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
