Lavada Campbell Sledge – Obituary

Lavada Campbell Sledge age 93 of Elgin, passed from this life on Sunday December 29, 2013 at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing Home. Visitation will be Tuesday December 31, 12:00 – 2:00pm at Elkins East Chapel, with a service at 2:00pm in the chapel. Burial will be in Barkley Cemetery. Conducting the service will be grand-sons-in law Mike Davidson and Jimmy Boren and family friend, Dale Boren. Graveside service will be conducted by long time family friend, David Sain.

Lavada spent most of her life living in eastern Lauderdale County, near Elgin and Rogersville and had most recently been a resident of Keestone Assisted Living (Heritage Manor) in Florence, Alabama for the past nine years. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Roy Sledge and handicapped daughter, Margaret, for whom, she provided loving and tender care for fifty-seven years; mother, Otha Campbell, and father Thomas Campbell; three sisters, Sarah Brewer, Sleetie Davis, and Vella Sledge; three brothers, Andrew, Arnold and William.

Lavada is survived by one son, Lawrence Sledge (Faye) of Florence; two granddaughters, Tracey Boren (Jimmy) of Madison; Lana Davidson (Mike) of Killen; one great granddaughter Amy Boren of Madison, two great grandsons, Kerry Boren of Madison and Evan Davidson of Killen; one sister Careen Butler of Rogersville.

Pallbearers will be Joey Butler, Troy Butler, Jeff Sledge, John Sledge, Kerry Boren, and Sammie Fritts. Honorary pallbearer is Evan Davidson.
