Funeral Services for Mrs. Laurine Cooper Giddens, age 80 of Ashland, will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Pastor Keith Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Giddens passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at the Clay County Hospital. She was born in Mississippi, attended BB Comer High School in Sylacauga and was married to her high school sweetheart, James Curtis Giddens for 52 years. She worked as a mill worker with Avondale and Russell Mills, and as a CNA at the Goodwater Nursing Home. Mrs. Giddens enjoyed sewing, making crafts, and spending time with her girls. She was a member of Oak Chapel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Giddens is survived by three daughters: Tammy Askew Blackmon (Bill) of Valley Grand, Debbie Giddens Campbell (Brad) of Sylacauga, and Belinda Giddens Catchings (Jeff) of Millerville; nine grandchildren: Brandy Jones (Mike), Brian Askew (Claressa), Heather Askew, Chris Cotney, Elizabeth Walker (Nathan), Holli Campbell (Matt), Grace Amason (Jacob), Daniel Blackmon (Kally), and Robert Blackmon; 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Geri Johnson (Jimmy) of Sylacauga; her best friend, Shelia Harbin of Ashland; and her pet companion, Lucy.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Edgar O. and Daisy Rogers Cooper; her husband of 52 years, James Curtis Giddens; one granddaughter, Blair Catchings; one great-granddaughter, Brehanna Cotney; one sister, Dot Logan; four brothers, her twin brother, Larry Cooper, James, Ray, and Roger Cooper.
Active Pallbearers will be Lyndoll Askew, Brian Askew, Michael Kelly, Noah Cotney, Jacob Amason, and Matt Campbell.
Her visitation will take place on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland from 5:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and until service time on Wednesday.
