Laurence G. “Sonny” Davis Jr., 85, of Trinity died Sunday evening at his home surrounded by family and friends. His funeral will be Friday, October 12th at noon at Ebenezer Christian Church in Hillsboro. Burial will follow in Davis Cemetery in Hillsboro. Public viewing will be held at Jackson Memory Funeral Home today and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mr. Davis will be placed in the church one hour prior to the funeral.
Sonny was born on December 10, 1932. He was the first of four children born to Laurence and Edith Davis, in the Coopers Hill community of Lawrence County. There, he grew up, attended, and graduated from Tennessee Valley High School. He served two years in the United States Army.
Sonny married, and born to this marriage were four children, Laurence III, Angela, Regina and Garry. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marion; a brother, Danny and a son, Rick.
Laurence was a devoted and active member of the Hillsboro community and always willing to give a helping hand.
He was a lifetime farmer until his retirement, and then became the owner and operator of Sonny’s BBQ until the storm of April 2011.
Left to cherish the memory of Laurence are a sister, Cathryn Davis Payne of Huntsville; sons and daughters, Laurence III (Constance), Angela, Garry (Effie), all of Trinity, Regina (Ron) of Madison; a daughter-in-law, Paulla Smith of Lawton, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
