Laura Jean Ake Laura Jean Ake, age 83 of Cowan, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Sherwood on August 17, 1937 to the late Lawrence and Lila Mae (Barnes) Garner. Laura Jean worked as a secretary for several years, but decided it was time to go home and take care of her family. A member of Cowan Church of Christ, Laura Jean was a devoted Christian woman who made sure her family was taken care of, and she loved meeting new people and spreading the word of God. She enjoyed being outdoors, flower gardening, going for walks, and cooking, but most of all she cherished the time spent with her beloved family. In addition to her parents, Laura Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Ake; son, David Ake; son-in-law, Hayes Austin; and brothers, John T. Garner, and Houston Garner. She is survived by her loving children, Darrell (Kathy) Ake of Atlanta, and Donna Austin of Cowan; grandchildren, Carly Ake, Brandon Ake, Jennifer Austin, and Ashlee Austin (Brandon Brawley); great-grandson, Bentley Austin; sister-in-law, Louise Garner of Sherwood; and several nieces and nephews.
