LAUDERDALE COUNTY-The Northwest Alabama Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council gave $5,000.00 to the Lauderdale County Soil and Water Conservation District for the purchase of a rainfall simulator kit. This organization believes in educating the general public about water conservation and use.
Lauderdale County Soil and Water Conservation District Technician Donna Garretson said they purchased a Travel Lite Simulator, a soil sample cutter, and a set of extra deep soil pans to display native grasses and small trees for their rainfall simulator kit. The total cost of the purchase was $5,216.00. Garretson said, “We anticipate reaching 1,000+ people every year with this traveling display…it is highly likely that those who see it will take home a greater knowledge of water management.” She also expressed her appreciation to the RC&D for the funds. “We are grateful to have this tool that is capable of reaching any audience, young and old alike, and making a direct impact on those that see it,” said Garretson.
Chairman of the Northwest Alabama RC&D Council Roger Hayes said the Council has participated in many projects over the years in support of conserving natural resources and educating the people about doing the same. He also expressed his appreciation to Senators Larry Stutts and Tim Melson as well as Representatives Johnny Mack Morrow, Marcel Black, Lynn Greer, and Phillip Pettus who represent Lauderdale County well and provide support for the RC&D in the state legislature.
