LAUDERDALE COUNTY-An inmate and correction officer with the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office have been reported missing after leaving the dentation center Friday morning.
Correction Officer Vicky White, a 25 year veteran of the LCSO, and inmate Casey White, inmate charged with capital murder, no relation, are still missing as of 8:30 PM.
Sheriff Rick Singleton held a press conference this evening and according to the sheriff Vicky White has been with the LCSO for 25 years. Vicki White was supposed to drop the inmate at the courthouse for a mental health evaluation the two left the detention center around 9:30 AM.
Sheriff Singleton confirmed that there was no mental evaluation scheduled for Casey White. The inmate is 38-years-old 6’6″ weighing 270 pounds. White is facing capital murder charges of a Rogersville woman in 2015 nd indicted for the murder in 2020. His trial was scheduled to begin June 13 of this year.
The sheriff said Officer White was armed with a 9mm when she disappeared and it was unclear if other weapons were in the vehicle.
Authorities said the vehicle was found in a parking lot of a shopping center located at Highway 72 and Cox Creek Parkway around 11:00 AM.
Officer White and the inmate were discovered missing at approximately 3:30PM on Friday.
Singleton said the Limestone County Sheriff’s Department is assisting in the investigation. Limestone County Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin. “All officers are on the lookout.”
The Lauderdale County District Attorney, Chris Connolly said the FBI will also be assisting with the search as are other state and local authorities. Connolly expressed extreme concern that the inmate was not in custody and was quoted as saying “This is a very dangerous situation.”
