LAUDERDALE COUNTY-Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly has qualified for re-election with the Republican Party.
Connolly leads a DA’s office that has an active partnership with law enforcement. “We work with law enforcement daily to ensure that we have quality prosecutions and that we are seeking justice for victims of crime.”
Connolly is a skilled trial attorney who loves being in the courtroom trying cases and seeking justice for crime victims.
After being elected, Connolly established a Cold Case Unit with law enforcement which solved several Cold Cases, including the murders of Keith Barnett and Chris Stanback.
Connolly was also instrumental in establishing the One Place Family Justice Center, which provides services to victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault and elder abuse by wrapping services around victims at one location.
He also looks out for elders and holds those who abuse or exploit them accountable by collaborating with DHR Adult Protective Services staff and law enforcement at regular MultiDisciplinary Task Force meetings.
Connolly was recognized by his peers as the State-wide District Attorney of the year in 2018. He has also received State-wide recognition for his work as an Advocate for Child Support and was honored by the Sons of American Veterans in receiving a Law Enforcement Award and
Medal. He was also elected by his fellow DA’s to serve as President of the Alabama DA’s Association.
He also works with the court system on alternatives to simply locking up people who commit non-violent crimes. Examples of these programs are Drug Court, Veterans Treatment Court, Mental Health Court and Pretrial Diversion Programs. These programs are designed to provide people with the tools to be productive in our community rather than being housed in overcrowded jails or prisons.
Connolly, a native of St. Florian, is married and has two adult daughters. “I love this job. It is the most rewarding job I have ever had. Getting justice for victims of crimes and holding offenders accountable is something I take very seriously. I hope to continue working for the people in the years to come.”
