THE SHOALS-Those who attend the Swampette Tour of area music venues on Saturday, September 5, will be among the last visitors who will get to see the historic 3614 Jackson Highway studio prior to its closing for renovations after Labor Day.
The tour starts at the Florence/Lauderdale Tourism Office & Visitor Center in McFarland Park at noon. Along with the visit to 3614 Jackson Highway, the tour also
offers stops at FAME Studios and the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. Led by Judy Hood, wife of the Swampers’ bass player David Hood, the tour travels to each venue aboard the “Trolley of Tunes.” The tour returns to the Visitor Center at 4 p.m. Tour cost is $35 per person.
Florence/Lauderdale Tourism will once again provide musical entertainment before the Swampette tour. Starting at 11 a.m., local musicians Justus Montgomery and T.J. Bender will perform in the Gallery at the Florence/Lauderdale Visitor Center in McFarland Park. The “mini-concert” is free and open to the public. Montgomery and Bender are singer/songwriters who are pursuing their Music Business degrees at the University of North Alabama. They will be performing original songs and cover tunes.
The last Swampette tour for the year will be Saturday, October 3. The November 14 tour has been CANCELLED due to Hood’s travel schedule..
