LaRue Amos (October 29th, 1931) went to Heaven on April 14th, 2024. He spent his first Sunday worship with his Lord God Almighty.
LaRue was the son of the late Abe Amos and Carrie Rhodarmer Amos of Canton, North Carolina. He was a native of Hapewood County, North Carolina.
He had two brothers, Jack Amos (husband of Judy Amos) and Sewell Amos (husband of Adina Amos), and one sister, Joan Amos Grasty of Virginia, survived by her husband, Bill Grasty.
After graduating from high school in Canton, LaRue joined the U.S. Navy where he spent 4 years refueling ships throughout the oceans of Korea and Japan.
LaRue is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jo Shuler of Clyde, North Carolina. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage filled with lots of love. Their children are Monte Amos (husband of Dianna Amos) of Rome, Georgia, and Alesia Spann of Decatur, Alabama. They are “Papaw” and “Mamaw” to six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
LaRue started in the paper industry in 1958 in Canton, North Carolina, and retired in 1994 in Courtland, Alabama. He was a member of Central Baptist Church for fifty-four years. He was very active in church activities such as mission trips and the welcoming committee on Sunday mornings. LaRue watched Alabama football every Saturday and enjoyed all family events. “Roll Tide Roll”.
Services are on Thursday, April 18th, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur, Alabama. Visitation is from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the chapel. Interment will be at Burningtree Memorial Gardens in Decatur, AL.
Pallbearers are grandsons and great-grandsons of LaRue and Bobbie Jo.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of LaRue Amos can be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
