Larry Mooneyhan Larry Mooneyhan, 69, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at St. Joan’s Care Home in Katy, TX. Larry was born July 27, 1954, in Houston, MS to John Edgar Mooneyhan and Lois Elaine (Buchanan) Mooneyhan. He attended school in Pontotoc, MS, graduating from Pontotoc High School in 1972. Larry worked in manufacturing most of his life. He married the love of his life, Janie, in April 1982. Their life journey took them from Pontotoc and Tupelo, MS to Conyers, GA then to their adopted hometown of Katy, TX where they have resided for the past 25 years. Larry loved the Texas lifestyle and all that came with it. That included his cows, horses, gardening and many dogs. A master electrician and talented handyman, Larry could fix almost anything. He was an excellent cook and loved seeing others enjoy the food he prepared.
The family would like to thank the staff at Herman-Memorial Hospital, Katy, TX, MD Anderson Cancer Center of Houston, the staff at St. Joan’s Care Home and Houston Hospice for the care and compassion given Larry during his illness. An extra special thank you to family friend Barbara Oswalt who helped us through this difficult time.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 41 years, Janie Mooneyhan of Katy, TX. Three sisters, Betty Jenkins, Linda Bond and Brenda Seale and her husband Riley, all of Pontotoc, MS; a brother, Jimmy Mooneyhan and his wife Jean, their son and special nephew Jason and his wife Joanne of Tupelo, MS. He was a very special and much-loved uncle to 6 nieces, 4 nephews, 8 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews. He will also be missed by his loyal canine companion, Max.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lois Mooneyhan; a brother, Tommy Mooneyhan, a sister, Perla Ferguson; 3 brothers-in-law, JR Ferguson, Mark Bond and Herbert Jenkins; niece Rita Roye, great-niece Connie Roye and nephew Dr. Nicky Ferguson.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be led by Brother Lee Graham at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc, Saturday, September 9 at 4pm. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Tutor Memorial Funeral Home of Pontotoc is assisting the family.
