Larry Lee Colquitt of Decatur, AL passed away on July 26, 2024. Visitation will be on August 1, 2024 from 10:30 to 12:00 with service to follow at 12:00 at Decatur Presbyterian Church with Scott Phillips officiating. He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.
Larry is survived by his sister, Lucy Blackwell (LeRoy); children Carol Colquitt Godwin (George) and Larry Lee Colquitt, Jr. (Erin); grandchildren Bo Godwin (Devin), Caroline Godwin Dresner (Brian), Lee Godwin (Christy), Chloe Schuessler (Sam), Molly Gambill (Hunter), and Jillian Colquitt; great-grandsons James and Alex Godwin.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean Parker Colquitt; Brother Jimmy Colquitt (Diane) and parents Ira Lee and Gypsy Lee Colquitt.
Larry was born in Montgomery, AL on November 5, 1937. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery in 1956 and briefly attended Auburn University. Afterwards he had a short stint as shortstop for the NY Giants farm league. He married Jean on December 29, 1960. He was employed by AT&T and South Central Bell in Birmingham until his retirement in 1989. He and Jean then moved to Decatur to be with his daughter’s family. He was an elder at both Briarwood Presbyterian and Decatur Presbyterian. He was an avid golfer who shot his age 71 and had five holes in one. His greatest joy was teaching young adults in Bible studies and sharing his faith in Christ.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Decatur Presbyterian Church earmarked “missions”
