Larry Smith Larry LaDon Smith, 70, of Albertville, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born on October 27, 1953, in Albertville, Alabama, at Sand Mountain Infirmary. Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew him.
Larry devoted 43 years of his life to working as a supervisor at GoldKist/Pilgrim’s Pride, where he exemplified hard work, dedication, and leadership. His commitment to his job was unwavering, and he made a lasting impact on all those he worked with. During his time at GoldKist/Pilgrim’s Pride, Larry also pursued his passion for landscaping and started his own company, which he operated for 23 years until his eventual retirement.
Larry had a deep passion for hunting, playing music, and landscaping, but above all, he cherished his family. He was also known as “Smooth” to many of his closest friends, Larry had a magnetic personality that lit up every room he walked into. His presence brought joy and laughter wherever he went, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Estela Smith, and his children: Michael (Julia) Smith, Misty (Richard) Kobelt, Nathan (Ruth) Brown, Tabitha (Josh) Doedtman, Elizabeth Danielle Smith, Diana Soto (Mitchell) Holland, and Jasmine Lissette Soto. He is also survived by his three sisters: Carolyn (Phil) Mayes, Linda (Gene) Roberts, and Peggy Hayes; as well as his grandchildren: Devin (Marquita) Smith, Tristian (Jessica) Baugh, Austin Smith, Logan Hallmark, Michael Tidwell, Trey Howell, Paxton Gregerson, Brandon Canales, Zoe Brown, Patrick Wilbanks, Aden Doedtman, Caleb Doedtman, and Ella Kate Narrell. His great-grandchildren: Levi Smith, Liam Smith, Drake Smith, and Lyla Baugh along with numerous other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ira B Smith and Alpha Omega Bankston Smith; sisters, Laura Mae Mayo and Catherine Bearden, and his brothers, Lowell Smith, Winston “Joe” Smith, and Jimmy Smith.
Pallbearers: Michael Tidwell, Trey Howell, Devin Smith, Aden Doedtman, Austin Smith, Eric Lemus.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Memory Hill Cemetery.
Larry Ladon Smith’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. ”
