Larry Kimm of Athens, Alabama went to be with our Lord on March 3, 2021. To many of his friends and family, Larry was also known as LK, Kimmer, Pops, and Papa. He was born on September 14, 1948 in Blairstown, Iowa to Dean and Martha Kimm. Larry is admiringly remembered as a loving husband, a man of faith, an avid Bass fisherman, a supportive father, a patriot, and a caring friend.
Larry served as a Marine during the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart. Larry would share his personal war stories which brought chills to his listeners as he described the perilous patrols he took as point man to secure the areas for his fellow Marines. He knew God was with him as he survived where many others had not and was able to make it home. His character was that of strength, tenacity, and courage.
During the past 6 ½ years, Larry bravely battled Stage 4 cancer and kidney disease. Although life changing, he considered this journey as an opportunity to share with everyone his faith and passions. His commitment to his marriage, family, and God will be cherished forever.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Dean Kimm of Marengo, IA, sister Reenie Fiser of Marengo, IA, daughter Christine Rodman of Mt. Vernon, IA and his grandson, Austin Tucker of Athens, AL. Larry is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patty Kimm of Athens, AL, his mother, Martha Kimm of Marengo, IA, Uncle Max Kimm of Blairstown, IA, Aunt Audrey (Ron) Yardley of Marengo, IA, Uncle Joe Vislisel of Marengo, IA., His brothers: Bruce (Natalie) Kimm of Cedar Falls, IA, Marve (Leslie) Kimm of Mapleton, MN, Vince (Diane) Kimm of Marengo, IA, and brother-in-law, Larry Fiser of Marengo, IA. His daughters: Laura (Andy) Kimm of Blairstown, IA, Rebbecca Tucker in Iowa, and Jeannette (Joe) Atchley of Athens, AL. Sons: DJ (Kim) Tucker of Greenwood, AR., and Robert (Kristy) Tucker of Athens, AL. and son-in-law, Chris Rodman of Mt. Vernon, IA. Larry’s grandchildren: Carter Rodman, Emerald Neary, Quinn Rodman, Emma Rodman, Alex Tucker, Natalie Tucker, Skyler Rodman, and Andrew Tucker all of Mt. Vernon IA and Athens, AL.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 13th at Limestone Chapel in Athens, AL. Visitation is from noon to 2 pm with a service following. A celebration and sharing of Larry’s life will begin at noon, Sunday, March 14th at the Kimm’s residence.
A husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, mentor, and a great friend to many, Larry Kimm will be cherished in our memories and missed forever in hearts.
