Larry Joe Dennis – Obituary

Larry Joe Dennis, 68, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016, in Iuka, at his lake home. He was born February 19, 1948 to the late Idus Lester Dennis and the late Maudie Pearl Weaver Dennis. Larry Joe had over 20 years in military service- active and reserve. He served in the 8th Combat Engineer Battalion of the 1st Calvary Division in Vietnam during 1967 and 1968. Larry Joe received various medals along with his Bronze Star. He was pinned by Governor Cliff Finch on the levee of Nita Lake for being the last enlisted person in the state of Mississippi to receive a direct commission in June of 1981 as a 2nd Lieutenant. He joined the National Guard in the 1st Battalion, 198th Armor, 155th Armored Brigade. He served various staff positions in the Battalion and retired as a Captain. Larry Joe was hired at Jesco on Sept. 3, 1976. He was rehired in 1994. He was a pipe welder, a site safety manager, and became a cooperate training educator earning the certification of Construction Health and Safety Technologist before his retirement on Dec. 17, 2014. He enjoyed fishing, reading, collecting various items, and he had a love for his pets.

A reflection of Larry Joe’s life will be 1:00 pm on Thursday December 22, 2016 at Senter Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Bates and Chaplain Bobby Cook. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 pm tonight, Wed. Dec. 21, 2016 at Senter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Tilden Community Cemetery.

Survivors include his Brother, Danny (Danita) Dennis of Fulton, Special Friend, Gail Coggins of Fulton.

Preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Carl Gaddy, Glen Davis, Mitchell Wheeler, Tommy Tanner, Andy Coker, and Mark Wilcutt.

Honorary Pallbearers are Jimmy Cowart, B.W. Ausborn, Doice Dulaney, Dr. James Monroe, John Coker, and Perry Rather.
