Larry J. Benson, age 87 of Jackson, passed away on July 22, 2024 at Maplewood Heath Care.Larry was born on April 8, 1937 in Henderson, TN, the son of the late George Henry Benson and Opal Pearl (Gilliam) Benson. His family moved to Madison County in 1938 where he was raised. He graduated from Malesus High School and then married Dorothy (Dot) Mae Cupples on January 8, 1956. He was employed with Jackson Energy Authority from September 22, 1960 until his retirement as a Service Foreman on March 31, 1994.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Dot Benson; his grandson, Nicholas (Nick) Lee Franks; four brothers, Gordon Benson, Narsh Benson, Charles Benson, and Travis Benson.
He is survived by his two daughters Janet Vann (Gary) and Lisa Smith (Larry); two grandchildren, Rachel Vann (Dalton) and Courtney Nicoles (Jace); six great grandchildren, Shaelynn Climer (Jake), Lakelynn, Ava, Jessa, Lilly, and Journey; two great great grandchildren, Oaklee and Jameson; and his brother, Pat Benson.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Larry Benson will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at 11 a.m. with Bro. Larry Kirk officiating. Family and friends are welcome and invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Larry’s memory be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
