Obituary of Larry Gene Selby Known lovingly as “Poppa” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Larry Gene Selby, age 86, of Hazel Green, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on November 19, 2024. He was born on August 7, 1938, in New Market, Alabama, to Leonard and Mary Thompson Selby.

Larry proudly served as a sergeant in the Army and National Guard. Following his service, he dedicated his career to Matthews Electric Company, where he worked as a store manager for many years. Larry’s passions included woodworking, watching Braves baseball, and cheering on Alabama football. A devoted family man, he never missed a kids’ sporting event and cherished every moment spent with his family. He was known for his quiet and calm demeanor, selflessness, and unwavering care for his loved ones, especially his wife. Slowing down was never an option for Larry; he lived every day with purpose and dedication.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Selby and Mary Thompson Selby; and his sisters, Inez Lones and Joyce Sharpe.

He is survived by his loving wife, Faye Jaco Selby; his daughter, Jeanna Moore (husband Ronnie Moore); his son, Larry Selby (wife Tammy Selby); his sisters, Loise Mullins, Juanita Miller, Vivian Selby, Carolyn Acock (husband Billy Acock), and Connie Morris; his grandchildren: Stephanie Crossley (great-granddaughters Brynn and Stella Crossley), Justin Green (great-grandchildren Henley, Harper, and Hudson Green), Austin Selby, Christian Motz (husband Ben Motz and great-granddaughters Layla and Norah Motz), Dalton Selby, and Kaytlyn Selby.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at noon, followed by a graveside service at 2 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama.
