Larry Elder – Obituary

The funeral service for Larry Elder, age 60 of Ashland, will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with David Rozelle and Mike Watts officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.

 

Mr. Elder passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. He was a native and life-long resident of Clay County and a graduate of Clay County High School. Mr. Elder had served as a maintenance worker with the Ashland Housing Authority for over 25 years and had also worked with Superior Buildings. In addition, he had been self-employed painting and restoring vintage automobiles. Mr. Elder had been a member of the Ashland Fire Department for over 25 years and was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Ashland.

 

He is survived by his beloved friend, Debra Bryant of Ashland; one sister, Margaret Anderson of Lineville; two brothers: Billy Wayne Elder of Coldwater, Kirby Elder of Lineville; several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

 

Mr. Elder was preceded in death by his parents: Charlie Thomas Elder Sr., and Clara Mac Hargrove Elder and two brothers: Charles Elder Jr. and Frank Elder.

 

Allen Hopkins, Mike Watts, Bobby Campbell, Terry Raughton, Richard McQueen and Joe Bob Jones will serve as pallbearers. Members of the Ashland Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.

 

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Monday, November 26, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and until service time on Tuesday.
