Mr. Larry Elco OvermanCommunities are made up of all types of individuals and a few are very special; some that make you smile or remember a story when their name is spoken. And today, the Scotts Hill / Ebenezer communities of Henderson County lost one of those, Larry Elco Overman.

Larry was 72 years old, born on Sunday, September 19, 1948, the only child of the late Elco and Arnell White Overman and died on Friday, January 15, 2021 in Jackson, Tennessee. He was a fixture in the Scotts Hill community, you might see him at some of his favorite places to go. An avid fan of Scotts Hill High School basketball games, he seldom would miss a home game and might lead the crowd in cheers. Larry reminded you of a cowboy, a farm hand that was always joining in the work and enjoyed rodeos, attending every weekend possible with much enthusiasm. He liked to hang out at the supermarket too, seeing familiar faces, friends and neighbors. He’d walk the aisles with them, talking and catching up as they were shopping. And if you happened to have attended a visitation or service at our funeral home, you’d see him wearing his very own Pafford name badge.

Larry’s life was broken up into three main parts, the first part of living with his parents for the first forty or so years; the second part of thirty plus years living with his longtime caregivers and cousin, Ronald and Barbara White and the last year and a half as a resident at Westwood Nursing Home in Decaturville. His residency there was truly a blessing, many residents that he already knew and a staff that pampered and took great care of Larry. Even when he left for a day for church or some special occasion, he wanted to be back by 5:00 o’clock, that’s when they served dinner! Even though Larry was never married, an only child, whose parents died many years ago, he was blessed to have many friends, acquaintances, eight first cousins and his caregivers, Ronald and Barbara White and their families that treated and cared for him as one of their own.

The family will have a visitation at Pafford Scotts Hill Funeral Home on Sunday, January 17, from 12:00 PM until time of his 3:00 PM graveside service at Ebenezer Cemetery in the Shady Hill community. The family has requested, instead of flowers, donations to the Ebenezer Cemetery Fund would be welcomed.
