Larry Calvin WeaverLarry Calvin Weaver, surrounded by his family, passed away on the morning of September 3, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. He is now in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ whom he served so faithfully for the better part of his life.Larry was born March 7, 1949, in Fort Benning, Georgia to Howard Edward Weaver, Sr. and Calvin Lorene Abercrombie Weaver. He began life as an Army kid, living in several states and overseas in Dachau, Germany. But his life as a teen was lived out on the family farm in Chambers County, Alabama.

Upon finishing high school as valedictorian in 1967, he was drafted into service during the Vietnam War. He served 4 years in the United States Navy aboard the nuclear submarine, USS Theodore Roosevelt. While in the Navy, Larry lived in Hawaii and pursued several activities, including scuba diving and earning his pilot’s license. He learned to play the guitar in high school and continued to enjoy the music of his generation for the remainder of his life.

After his stint in the Navy, he attended Auburn University, earning his degree in electrical engineering. It was at Auburn that he met his future bride, Sondra, in January of 1977. They were married on December 18th of that same year. He worked for a couple of small aircraft companies in Wichita, Kansas and then Selma, Alabama. He got a call from The Boeing Company in 1982 with a job offer to relocate to Huntsville, which was Sondra’s hometown. They jumped at the chance to be closer to family and Larry accepted the job. He retired in 2012 after 30 years with Boeing Huntsville.

Those who knew Larry know that the most important person in his life was Jesus Christ. He partook of the communion elements daily and loved nothing more than spending his time in prayer and the study of God’s Word. Larry had volumes of writings of his own, in addition to many reference books, which he cherished. He studied the Hebrew language to better understand and interpret the word of God in his studies. Larry was an active member of Jackson Way Baptist Church since 1982 and taught Bible classes to all ages during his lifetime. He was always ready to share the Gospel with anyone and everyone, and shared his faith with each of the doctors and nurses that attended him at the hospital and cancer center.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife of almost 47 years, Sondra Mann Weaver; daughters, Rachel Weaver McDaniel (Billy) and Ashley Weaver Guin (Brett) and five precious grandchildren, Ethan William McDaniel and Luke Weaver McDaniel, Ayla Kate Guin, Vera Eliana Guin, and Ezra Gary Guin; his three brothers, Howard Edward Weaver, Jr., Robert Danny Weaver, and Charles Frank Weaver; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 1:30-2:50 pm, with the celebration service to follow at 3:00 pm, at Jackson Way Baptist Church, Huntsville, AL. Burial will immediately follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
