Laquieta Smith Baker, age 81 of Gardendale, passed away December 3, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, James William Baker; father; Horace Smith; mother, Bessie Smith; sister, Berthell Taylor and her brothers, William B. Smith, James Q. Smith and Adrian Smith. Laquieta is survived by her loving son, Phillip K. Baker, many loving nieces and nephews and a host of beloved friends. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Laquieta and her husband Jim were lifetime church members. They attended Northland Catherdral in Kansas City, Metro Church of God in Birmingham and First Baptist Church of Gardendale. Laquieta was a successful businesswoman. She owned two businesses in Kansas City and managed a Hallmark store in Birmingham. She was extremely professional and had impeccable organizational skills. She had a gift for decorating and had an exceptional sense of style. Laquieta had an incredible personality and a wonderful sense of humor. Funeral services to honor her life will be held at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 1 pm. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to service time. Interment will follow in New Horizon Memorial Gardens.
