Lannis Chester Jones Sr., 80, of Florence passed away December 14, 2024, at his home surrounded by family. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. with Brother David Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Lannis was raised in Clanton, AL where he graduated from Chilton County High School in 1962. While in the fifth grade, he met his wife, Linda, to whom he was married for 61 years.
Poppie loved fishing, bird hunting, gardening, and being outdoors with his family. He was the owner of Alabama Music for 37 years and was influential in the lives of thousands of musicians and hundreds of band directors. He was also greatly involved in the beginnings of Underwood Dixie Youth where he coached for 30 years and served as President for many years. Nothing was more important to Poppie than his family, and his legacy continues to live on.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Sarah Jones; and sister-in-law, Patsy Vines.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Lan Jones (Jennifer); daughters, Jami Willis (Mike) and Mindy Hanback (Brad); grandchildren, Kyle Willis (Brittany), Chad Willis (Mallory), Hope Willis, Ben Jones, Evan Jones, Will Jones, Matt Hanback, and Blake Hanback; great-grandchildren, Hudson Willis, Nolan Willis, Maddox Willis, JB Willis, and soon to arrive, Gunner Willis; sister, Jan Landers (Jim) of Alexander City, Alabama; sister-in-law, Myra Meacham (Jimmy) of Montgomery, Alabama; brother-in-law, Buddy Vines of Clanton, Alabama; and sister-in-law Donna Wiggins of Birmingham, Alabama.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandsons and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. McFall, Dr. Heaton, Dr. Mann, Dr. Morris, and all the caregivers at NAMC and Gentiva Hospice.
