Lanita Kay Walker Khalil, 63, of Mobile, passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at her home. Her graveside service will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 23, 2024 at Aldridge Grove Cemetery with Garry Lovette officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.
Born on December 15, 1960 to Jimmy and Juanita Alexander Walker, Lanita graduated from Gulfport High School in Gulfport, Mississippi then the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She served as Executive Director of both Birmingham AIDS Outreach and AIDS Alabama South in Mobile. Most recently Lanita worked as a self employed artist and designer. She loved animals, flowers, gardening, and just living life. Lanita had a special talent to make anyplace she visited better than it was when she got there.
Survivors include her husband, Saood Khalil; brothers, David Walker (Clark Underbakke), and Jimmy Keith “Jake” (Robin) Walker; very special childhood friend, Beverly Martin Burkholder, who Lanita considered to be her sister; niece, Nikki Walker; nephew Jacob Keith (KateLynn) Walker; and great-niece, Kiera Allen.
Pallbearers will be David Walker, Jimmy Keith “Jake” Walker, Clark Underbakke, Jacob Keith Walker, Nikki Walker, and Kiera Allen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local animal shelter of your choice.
