HUNTSVILLE-Spring is one of the best times to visit Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve. The waterfalls are flowing and wildflowers are blooming. This year is even more special due to the recent donation of Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve to Land Trust of North Alabama. For over 40 years, Jim and Faye Lacefield preserved Cane Creek Canyon’s natural resources and welcomed visitors to experience this special piece of northwest Alabama. The February 2023 donation of the Cane Creek property to the Land Trust of North Alabama, a nonprofit conservation organization based in Huntsville, ensures its continued protection and public access.

On Saturday, April 29 as Earth Month winds down, the Land Trust invites the public to celebrate the legacy of the Lacefields and the future of Cane Creek Canyon. Activities throughout the day feature hiking, wildflowers, food, music, and stargazing. While the preserve will open to visitors at 7:00 am as usual, special events begin at 1 PM and continue into the evening. This event is free but donations to support continued care of the property and public trail system are appreciated and encouraged.

The event will also include recognition of a generous donation from corporate partner Essity to fund the installation of a trailhead information kiosk and a tool storage bin for trail maintenance.
