Pastor Lamar McGriff of New Market, Alabama went to be with the Lord on Wednesday. He was 75 and was a 1967 graduate of Hazel Green High School.
Reverend McGriff was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a faithful pastor who ministered to those around him. He had served a number of churches in Arkansas and Alabama during his ministry of more than 50 years. He was currently the Pastor of Neely’s Chapel Baptist Church where he had served for nearly 20 years.
Lamar had a true servant’s heart and was passionate about helping others. In his spare time, he loved fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Joeena Hudson McGriff; His parents, Rev. Glen D. & Helen McGriff; His grandparents, Clare & Alma Perry.
Surviving family members include his daughter, Leah Colby Miller (Lyle); Glen Alan McGriff (Jana); His grandchildren: Kaylie Moore (Jay), Will McGriff, Lauren Colby, and Ethan Colby; his sisters: Glenda Cross and Donna McGriff. His brother-in-law, Steve Hudson (Fay). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, many friends, his beloved church family, and his loving cat, Dilly.
The family will receive friends on Saturday beginning at 11am and continuing until the time of the service at 1pm. Brother David Hutto will officiate. Burial will follow the service and will be in Prosperity Cemetery in Taft, Tennessee.
Reverend McGriff will be remembered for his heart for serving the Lord and his fellow man, for his sense of humor – always wanting to share a laugh, and for his love for his family, especially being ‘Papa Mack’ to his grandchildren.
