Lacy Julian Waynick, Sr., of Florence passed away Friday, Nov. 29, 2013.
Visitation will be today, Nov. 30, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013 at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Brother Jerry Campbell and Brother Ellis Coats officiating. Interment will be in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mr. Waynick was born in Dixon, Tennessee on July 29, 1927. He served in the United States Army Air Force and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He graduated from and received his Master’s degree from Florence State College (UNA) and received his EDS from the University of North Alabama. He began his teaching career at Cloverdale Junior High School. He was principal at Waterloo High School for many years. He loved and always remembered his former students. He loved his family, his pets, and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed gardening, doing crossword puzzles, and sharing the produce from his garden with family and friends.
Mr. Waynick was preceded in death by his parents, Morgan and Susie Waynick, four brothers and two sisters, and his first wife, Jewel Borden Waynick.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Waynick; special daughter, Kathryn Waynick; first child, Sheila Rhodes (Carl), and only son, Lacy Jr. (Roanna); grandchild, Julianna Waynick, his pride and joy.
Active pallbearers will be Doug Moomaw, Keith King, Philip Fowler, Scotty Butler, Jeff Borden, and Brian Covington.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Members of Bethel Berry Church of Christ, Tom Ray, Billy McFall, Coach Tom Glasgow, and Jimmy May.
