COLBERT COUNTY-A tribute to working men and women, a competition for cowboys and cowgirls, an all-day concert and a festival honoring coon hounds are some of the ways Labor Day will be celebrated in Colbert County.
Susann Hamlin, executive director of Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau, said this is one of the busiest Labor Day weekends ever in the county.
The Shoals Central Labor Council’s annual Labor Day celebration at Spring Park in Tuscumbia, begins at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1. A Labor Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. in downtown Tuscumbia. The celebration, the oldest of its kind in Alabama, includes food, music, candidate speeches and more. For more details call 256-383-2758.
Also on Monday, Sept. 1, a daylong, family-friendly, music festival, featuring 23 artists on three stages, including Jason Isbell, Travis Wammack and the Snakeman Band, The Midnighters, Max Russell and the Shakedown Kings, and Erik Smallwood, begins at 10 a.m. at the North Alabama State Fairgrounds. The annual Key Underwood Memorial Coon Dog Cemetery Labor Day Celebration begins at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 1, at the cemetery, 9495 Coon Dog Cemetery Road, near Cherokee.
