Kizzie “Kay” Ruth Balkus was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-Grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world, from the comfort of her home, on Sunday, August 20th, 2023, at age 92. Born in the hills near Knoxville, Tennessee, on January 2nd, 1931, Kay started working at 14 Years old eventually learning electronics which became her lifelong career. She retired in 2011 from National Securities Technologies of Nevada where she spent over two decades working in highly specialized Fiber Optics systems.
Kay was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, John G. Balkus, her parents, Lewis Lloyd & Margaret Lawson Lloyd, and 23 brothers and sisters. Miss Kay leaves behind a long legacy of family including her daughter, Dianna Stonebraker, her daughter, Iris Roberts, her son, Robert Zweifel, 7 grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren, 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren…and counting!!
Kay, with her husband, John, and their two fur-babies, Janae & Peppi, loved to travel and spent much time RV’ing across the country to visit with family members. Kay loved spending time with her children and their families and had a passion for raising miniature poodles. Kay loved music, enjoyed seeing a good show and was known to heat up the dance floor when the occasion arose.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 12:00 until 2:00 at Bills McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home located at 755 Yell Road, Lewisburg, TN 37091, with graveside services immediately following. In lieu of flower arrangements, the family would appreciate live Hydrangea plants of any color as they were one of Kay’s favorites.
