FLORENCE-On Saturday, April 15 the search was over for the escaped inmate wanted for attempted murder of a police officer. After a nine-hour standoff, Christopher Kilpatrick surrendered Saturday night, ending the manhunt.
Kilpatrick had been on the run since April 7 when he escaped from the Lauderdale Detention Center. He was spotted on Saturday as he ran into the metal building on the west side of Alabama 157, just south of the Lauderdale 6 intersection. Officials were fearful Kilpatrick had a gun. After he was apprehended he was only armed with a knife.
Authorities said ALEA SWAT members put a telephone inside the building and they were able to confirm that it was Kilpatrick at 6:08 PM.
Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said Kilpatrick was on the telephone talking with the ALEA negotiator when he decided to come out.
Kilpatrick was taken to the Lauderdale Detention Center after his capture ending the seven day manhunt.
