free to boys and girls 12 and younger.  Held in conjunction with the Cabela’s KingKat Invitational Tournament, held on that same day, the Kids Fishing Rodeo typically draws about 100 kids,” said Susann Hamlin Executive Director of the Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau.

 

The Rodeo begins with registration from 8 – 9 a.m.; fishing from 9 – 11 a.m., followed by the Weigh In and a free lunch of grilled hotdogs, chips, drinks. “This is a great time for the kids to get out and enjoy the great outdoors, catch some fish, win prizes and have a great time,” said Sheffield Mayor Ian Sanford. There are two divisions for the youngsters, 0-7 years and 8-12 years.  Top winners in each division win various prizes and all receive a tackle pack.

 

crappie usaAll participants will be eligible for a chance to win one of four, $1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn in the annual Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic that will be held this Fall.
KingKat Productions, Crappie USA,  and its anglers have contributed over $300,000 to the youth scholarships since 1997. This program is the pride of tournament teams participating in various Cabela’s KingKat and Cabela’s Crappie USA tournaments said Darrell VanVactor, President and CEO of Crappie USA and KingKat Productions. “ Many scholarship winners participate in tournaments as they get older,” he noted.

 

Local sponsors for the Fishing Rodeo are the City of Sheffield and Sheffield Parks and Recreation, Colbert County Tourism and Convention Bureau, and the Jameson Inn, Sheffield.
