Kids Fishing Rodeo….an annual event in Sheffield – SATURDAY!!!

2012 KingKat Kids Fishing Rodeo 019 Sheffield- A Kids Fishing Rodeo has been scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2013, out of Riverfront Park, tourny logoSheffield, in conjunction with the Cabela’s KingKat Invitational Tournament being held on Pickwick and Wilson Lakes on the same day.  All youth, 12 years and younger, are invited to fish from the bank at Riverfront Park, Sheffield.  Youth will register beginning 2009 Crappie Kids Fishing Rodeo 5 30 09 069at 9:00 a.m. and begin fishing at 9:30 a.m.  The weigh in will begin at 11:00 a.m.  All youth and their families will be treated to a free lunch of hotdogs, chips, and drinks.  Youth will be provided with a tackle pack and will have the opportunity to win additional prizes.  Youth must be accompanied by an adult and bring a fishing rod/reel or pole and their favorite tackle.  All youth who fish in the rodeo will be automatically registered in a drawing for college scholarships to be given away at the Catfish Classic to be held on Kentucky Lake, Camden, TN.

hosting Kids Rodeos for several years.  “It is a great way for a child and his parents to spend the day, fishing and learning about the great outdoors,” said Sheffield Mayor Ian Sanford.  “Over the years, we have been pleased that the facilities in Sheffield have proven to be perfect for an event like the Kids’ Rodeo.”

Susann Hamlin, Executive Director of the Colbert County Tourism Office said, “We are pleased that the community takes advantage of these fishing rodeos for youth.  We have a great time down at the river, interacting with the children.  We have as much fun as the kids,” she said. The Kids’ Rodeo typically brings out from 100 to 150 boys and girls.

 

The Kids Rodeo is sponsored by the Colbert County Tourism office, the City of Sheffield and Sheffield Parks and Recreation.  The Cabela’s KingKat Tournament is brought to the area by the Cabela’s  KingKat Association.  For information on their tournaments and to join the Association, visit the website: www.kingkatusa.com
