Kent Smith, 69, of Hazel Green, Alabama, went to be with the Lord on Sunday while at home surrounded by his loving family.

Kent was born in Winchester, Tennessee and later moved to Hazel Green where he graduated from high school in 1970 before serving in the United States Air Force.  He was a devoted follower of Christ, attended the Hazel Green Church of God of Prophecy, and had a passion for sharing the gospel through evangelism and Southern Gospel music ministry .  One of his greatest joys was singing with his family for the last twenty-seven years as part of The Kent Smith Family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Smith and Retha Durm Ashby;  His step-father, Robert W. Ashby;  His brothers, Sidney Smith and Donnie Ashby;  His father-in-law, Woodrow Manley and his mothers-in-law, Helen Manley and Rachel Manley.

His surviving family members include his wife of almost 47 years, Karon Manley Smith;  His daughters and sons-in-law, Kasi & Eric St.Clair and Kandace & Eddie Jones;  His grandchildren:  Leah St.Clair, Matthew Jones, Trinity Boyett, Chloe St.Clair, Caroline Jones, Collyn St.Clair; His sisters, Freda (Gary) Wood, Pam (Jimmy) Limbaugh, Tammy (Randy) Kelly, Melanie (Ricky) Bradford, and Angie Jenkins.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of loving friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 until 8pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home.   Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1pm at Hazel Green Church of God of Prophecy with Bishop Harold St.Clair and Bro. Jimmy Hill officiating.  A graveside service will follow at Beech Hill Cemetery in Winchester.
