Ken was born in Crane Hill to Emmett P. and Bessie Robinson Wood on Aug. 21 1936. He graduated from Cullman High School in the class of 1954 and attended St Bernard’s College. Ken served in the U.S. Military and was stationed with the 25th infantry division artillery corps in Hawaii from 1960 to 1961. He moved to Decatur and married his wife of 52 years, Billie Helfin Wood, who preceded him in death. Ken was a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and served as an elder, Youth group leader and Committee member. He was also a Boy Scout Troup Leader for Decatur’s Troop 16.
Ken was employed as an electrical draftsman at SCI, Chrysler and retiring from Boeing in 1996.
He was a loving brother, husband, uncle and father who leaves behind his daughter, Margaret Wood Emery and son-in-law, Brian; his sisters, Zoie Wood Perkins and Fleta Wood Wideman; his brothers, Chyron and Tommy Wood; and many nephews and nieces. Ken was preceeded in death by his oldest brother, Jack Wood.
Ken enjoyed gardening and landscaping in his yard.He loved growing vegetables and pecans. He loved fishing and camping and has camped all across the southeastern states. He loved all sports, playing basketball in high school, St. Bernard’s College and the Army. He once road an elephant, drove a 1969 “Big Green” Chevy pickup and is well known for his Cumberland Falls Kentucky Championship Shuffle Board and Ping Pong playing. ROLL TIDE!!
A Celebration of his Life will begin Friday, April 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Decatur. His body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Roselawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
