kennethKenneth Ray Jones, 77, of Cherokee, Ala., passed away Friday, June 7, 2013.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Morrison Funeral Home, Cherokee. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Brother Sammy Hayes officiating. Burial will be at Harris Chapel Cemetery, Cherokee.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Martha Rich Jones, parents, Richard M. and Mable E. Jones, father and mother-in-law, William H. and Myrtle W. Rich, sisters, Elizabeth Lansdell and Martha Robinson, brothers-in-law, William Robinson, Bill Lansdell, Billy Waldrep and Tommy Rich.
Survivors include son, Kenny Jones and wife, Jill, of Tuscumbia, sister, Shirley Rich and husband, Jimmy, sisters-in-law, Barbara Rhodes (W.J.), Hellen Waldrep and Evelyn Rich, all of Cherokee. He is survived by many nieces and nephews who were all special to him.
Kenneth was a native of Cherokee, graduating from Cherokee Vocational High School where he played football and basketball. He was a veteran of the U.S. National Guard, serving his country for six years. He was a supporter and fan of Cherokee sports until his health kept him from being there. He coached Dixie Youth baseball in Cherokee for many years. He also loved watching and attending the University of Alabama football and basketball games. He was retired from LaRoche Industries after 37 years, and was a faithful member of the Cherokee United Methodist Church.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Andre Taylor and staff, Southern Magnolia Assisted Living staff, Tupelo Hospital Acute Stroke Unit doctors and staff, and Gentiva Hospice. Thank you to all who prayed, called, visited and sent messages during this time.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Ricky Rich, Greg Waldrep, Mike Rhodes, Keith Robinson, Doug Hester and Adam McVay.
