Mr. Kenneth “Kenny” Allen Compton, 69, retired Assistant Chief of Columbia Fire and Rescue, died Monday, January 3, 2022 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services for Mr. Compton will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Graymere Church of Christ with Andrew Phillips and Chief Ty Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 pm. to 8:00 p.m. at the church. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakeandnichols.com.

Born on December 23, 1952 in Maury County, he was the son of the late Victor Albert Compton and late Jean Davis Compton. He was a graduate of Columbia Central Class of 1970 and went on to Columbia State Community College to receive his Associate Degree in Electronics. On August 4, 1972 he married Frances Davis Compton. Mr. Compton began his career with Columbia Fire Department in 1975 and retired as Assistant Chief in 2008 and was a member of the Tennessee Fire Chief Association. He was a well known furniture refinisher for over 40 years and enjoyed wood working. He had many interests including, gardening, creek fishing, blue grass music, playing his guitar, civil war re-enactments and coaching baseball and soccer. Mr. Compton was a member of Graymere Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon and currently was over the building maintenance. Above all he was a loving and devoted husband, father and Papa.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Davis Compton of Columbia; daughter, Joanna (Steve) Huff of Columbia; sons, Jason (Sheree) Compton of Williamsport, Jon (Lana) Compton of Columbia, and Jordan (Andrea) Compton of Columbia; grandchildren, Ethan Compton, Summer Compton, Jackson Huff, Jacob Huff, Aiden Compton, Jared Huff, Colton Compton and Ansleigh Compton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Michelle Compton.
Pallbearers will be Columbia Fire & Rescue Honor Guard. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Compton, Stan Pinkleton, Steve Compton, James Davis, Garry Gordon, Fred Flanigan, Elders, Deacons and Ministers of Graymere Church of Christ, and current and retired firefighters of Columbia Fire & Rescue.
