Obituary of Kendall "Sonny" BassFuneral services for Kendall (‘Sonny’) Bass will be held Wednesday February 20, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home, 741 Danville Road in Decatur, AL. The family will host friends prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family will have a private graveside service following the funeral.

Kendall was born April 26, 1933 in Hillsboro, AL and was called home on February 17, 2019 at his home in Decatur. Kendall was born April 26, 1933 to Otis and Ruth Sanderson Bass in Hillsboro, Al. After graduating high school from Decatur high School in 1951, Kendall joined the US Army serving his country and receiving several medals and commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Metal and the Rifle (marksman) commendation. After his service with the US Army, Kendall began a 32 year career with Chemstrand/ Monsanto in Decatur.

Kendall will be remembered by his family as a loving Husband Father and Grandfather and for his life of generously giving of his time to the community. He worked with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master where he was honored with the member of the Order of the Arrow. He enjoyed coaching his sons in Dixie Youth Baseball and later served as President of both Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys Baseball; and eventually as Commissioner of Dixie Boys Baseball. Kendall was President of the Decatur High Booster Club for and enjoyed cooking steaks for the Senior football players on the barge every year.

Kendall will also be remembered as being a faithful churchgoer, throughout his life he worshipped at Hillsboro United Methodist, Memorial Drive United Methodist, and Austinville United Methodist Church where he again gave of his time cooking for the annual Chicken Stew Fundraiser. He loved people and always enjoyed helping others. He was known for his extremely well-behaved Great Danes and had a love for horticulture, antique cars, and genealogy.

Kendall was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Ruth Bass. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Doris Neel Bass, two sons, Jeff (Mindy) Bass and Bart (Valerie) Bass, and five grandchildren: Ashley (Ben) Lawson, Corrie, Conner, Taylor and Matthew and his cousin, Kathy Tromblay.

Pallbearers will be Conner Bass, Matthew Bass, Ben Lawson, John Tucker, Sonny Terry, Mike Horn, Richard Smith, Jerry Knight. Honorary Pallbearers: Ralph Ledbetter, Charlie Watkins, Scott McColluch and Warren Glenn.
