Ken Holcombe – Obituary

Ken Holcombe of Huntsville passed away September 23rd. His service will be at St. Thomas Episcopal Church November 3rd with visitation at 1 p.m. and services at 2 p.m.

Ken was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 21, 1937. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis Holcombe. They have three children, Les Holcombe and his wife Pam, Dr. Lesa Roberts and her husband Kenny, and Leah Carius and her husband Alex. They have nine grandchildren, Stephanie McGlathery her husband Greg, Neal Roberts and his wife Tatiana, Anna Roberts, Pruitt Holcombe, Pryce Holcombe, Payton Holcombe, Max Carius, Reese Carius and Alex Carius. Ken also has four great-grandchildren, Karis McGlathery, Audrey McGlathery, Blake McGlathery and Aiden Roberts. Ken loved his family and was so proud of all of them.

Ken served in the U.S. Army being called out of reserves in 1962 for special training in Fort Polk Louisiana. He served in the Alabama State Troopers for 25 years, mostly in Lauderdale County. He worked at the Governors Mansion as security for two Governors. He worked as Public Service Commission Officer. He worked in Huntsville at Wal- Mart and Gander Mountain. He graduated from Athens State College in 1977. Ken loved being “Papa” to his grandchildren, played high school football, played golf and driving trips. He never knew a stranger and would stop to help anyone in need. He looked forward to his Bible study group at St. Thomas. Donations can be made to Shoals Area Special Athletes.
