THE SHOALS-Keep the Shoals Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and a sponsored program of the Shoals Chamber of Commerce, is launching the #IKeeptheShoalsBeautiful Challenge for all Shoals elementary students, K-6th grade, this week. Partnering with the Tennessee Valley Authority and SCA Tissue, Keep the Shoals Beautiful is encouraging students to snap a photo of themselves placing litter and/or recycled material in the appropriate bin, and upload that photo to Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter using the hashtag #IKeepTheShoalsBeautiful.
Each week, a winner will be selected randomly from that week’s submissions to receive
prizes. The first winner will be selected on February 5. The challenge wraps up on April 15 with a grand prize winner selected to receive an “ultimate experience package of the Shoals” as well as a pizza party for his or her class.
“Parents are welcome to post photos on behalf of their child,” explains Keep the Shoals Beautiful Director
. “We want to reach parents as well as students in an effort to encourage recycling and curb litter in the Shoals.”
Students may begin posting their photos now and can enter as many times as they like as long as their photos are unique each time.
The Shoals as an estimated 11,000 elementary students in the Shoals-area. “We feel as an organization that it’s imperative to begin teaching children early about the importance of keeping the area where they live and play clean and habitable for years to come,” Kauchick said. “We feel this challenge is a fun way to move in that direction.”
