Kaye Stokely Wilson, age 65, of Muscle Shoals, passed away peacefully at her home on Aug. 19, 2012, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born to the late Edward Harrison Stokely and Elizabeth Campbell Stokely on July 19, 1947.
Kaye was raised in Selma, Alabama, and attended A.G. Parrish High School before attending Auburn University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.
On March 7, 1970, she was united in marriage to Charles Roy Wilson in Selma, where Kaye began her career in teaching within the Selma city school system. She and her family then relocated to Muscle Shoals in 1984 where she taught in both the Muscle Shoals and Tuscumbia City school systems, serving as both a classroom teacher and an elementary school librarian.
As an educator, Kaye influenced the lives of many young people and their affection for her stands as testimony to her unique and profound teaching style. Her exceptional gift of storytelling is still remembered fondly by many.
Family and friends were Kaye’s passion and delight. She took great pride in her home and enjoyed it being the “landing place” for all those she adored. She loved books and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed watching old Hollywood movies, playing bridge with friends, traveling and especially shopping. Her generosity to all who had the pleasure of sharing in her day to day life will always be remembered.
With Kaye’s passing we would like to remind others that her life is one to be celebrated, although we will miss her everyday, especially her soft loving voice, she will always remain forever in our hearts.
Kaye leaves behind many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support that enhanced her quality of life. We would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at The Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, Illinois, those at Northwest Alabama Cancer Center, Muscle Shoals, and Southern Care Hospice, Muscle Shoals. All of these special people, too numerous to mention provided Kaye with love and dignity in her life and also in her death.
Kaye is survived by her loving daughter, Stacey Elizabeth Wilson; her sister, Pat Stokely Crowe; many nieces and nephews; and a number of other relatives, “adopted children” and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Roy Wilson; and both parents.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2012, starting at 5:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home of Tuscumbia. A memorial service celebrating Kaye’s extraordinary life will begin at 6:00 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers for the service will be David Donaldson, Robert Hagood, Russell Holt, Tracy Jordan, Bob Magnusen, Butch Russell, Glenn Spiller and Thomas Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, cancer.org.
