Kay Carol Woodruff, age 82, a resident of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at NHC Columbia.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Wagner officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8PM at Heritage Funeral Home and again on Saturday from 10-11Am at the church. An inurnment will be held at a later date in the Garden of Peace in Maury Memorial Gardens. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on August 28, 1935 in Battle Creek, Michigan, Kay was the daughter of the late Frank Henke and the late Marie Harris Henke. She earned her Master’s Degree in engineering from Western Michigan University. She previously worked as a quality control lab manager at a paper mill before retiring in 1998. After retiring, she moved to Crossville, TN. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and previously attended Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo, MI and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Crossville, TN. She married Bernard Woodruff on October 24, 1953. Together they enjoyed traveling and playing cards. He preceded her in death on October 21, 2010. Kay enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, and playing the piano. While a member at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, she made it her mission to send all the members of the church birthday and anniversary cards. Above all, she was a loving mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughters: Debra (Gary) Foster of Kalamazoo, MI, Judy (John) Clear of Columbia, Lynda (Chuck) Doezema of Louisville, TN; grandchildren: Cindy (Tyler) Calhoun of Arizona, Patricia Knight of Kalamazoo, MI, Amanda (Chris) Kerns of Indianapolis, IN, Eric (Melissa) Clear of Columbia, Elizabeth (Chris) Alonso of Columbia, Stephanie (Donnie) Lowe of Columbia, Kathryn Clear of Columbia, Marie (Bill) Brown of Portage, MI, Shane Higgins of Portage, MI, Christian Doezema of Louisville, KY; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will include: Chuck Doezema, Eric Clear, Gary Foster, Dick Woodruff, Christian Doezema, Donnie Lowe, and Shane Higgins.
